About

As it happens, I found a "full webpack" source for this printer which included an HP scanner function and I already had it working as a Windows printer. Is there a manual way to add the device on HP Smart or a stand alone scanner app? Ironically I can easily add the printer in HP Smart on my Android  phone and use the scanner function from there but for now I cannot scan from Windows. The HP App supports most wireless-enabled HP printers released since 2014. For more information on setting up your printer with the HP app, see HP printer setup (HP app). However, just last week, when the office installed a new HP Laserjet printer, i was trying to connect HP Smart in order to allow scanning.

I was finally able to get it all set up with this information. Enter the device type and model name of your HP product It adds one, but says the Laser is powered off. I need this in order to set up the shortcut to Scan to Email.

Additional Tips

I cannot get the printer to show up in the app so I can't use any functions through the app. If you're using a Wi-Fi-connected HP printer, this is crucial for ensuring the printer can communicate with your PC. Malwarebytes Privacy VPN allows a Win11 App to bypass the Privacy VPN for local network use when it is specified by App Name/HD drive location or by static IP address . The Laptop can print to the 4301fdw using the HP SMART App through the VPN by a wireless connection, but it is extremely slow for printing through the VPN. When I temp disable the VPN s/w, my HP Smart printing speed is much faster on the MFP-4301fnw printer.

Blue wifi light on printer  keeps flashing but  won’t connect. IMHO the web pack plus Windows printer solution was much easier. This time (not running as admin) it prompted me right away to allow location, before reaching the point of "Add printer" and worked like a dream.

Install HP Smart App (if not already installed)

It appears there is no Win11 Shortcut available or can be created to link to the HP SMART App, so this would not reveal the HP SMART App location. This is why I asked about how to exempt the HP SMART App from VPN use – to enable faster local printing by bypassing the VPN. My Malwarebytes VPN s/w allows me to exempt specific Win11 Apps locations or static IP addresses from being forced to use VPN. I want to print locally by trying to exempt the HP SMART App from being redirected by VPN software outside my local network? Is it just not possible to have the printer on an isolated and restricted subnet for HP Smart to work?

Supported Languages

I don't know whether having set it to On (it was anyway) that I expect HP Smart to suddenly do something. I do that in Installed Apps, HP Smart, Location but then nothing happens. Any suggestions where I can find the location of the HP SMART App in my Laptop files so  I can disable HP SMART from using a VPN would be very helpful… HP online docs suggest that HP SMART App location is hidden for security reasons within some unknown and unspecified Win11 files location. However, Malwarebytes Privacy VPN that I use cannot recognize where is the location of the HP SMART App so it can be exempted by name from VPN use. However to exempt the HP SCAN s/w from VPN, I need to find its App location on the storage drive or hard disk.
