In just a few days a new part of the famous series will be released Devil May Cry and we will finally be able to see everything and decide for ourselves: was the restart of the famous franchise a success, or was it not worth it?. However, now I bring to your attention a rather old and, of course, rather dusty opinion about the fourth part of Dante’s Adventures (and not only), which I had the pleasure of writing immediately after beating the game back in 2008:
For me personally, waiting for the fourth part of the game Devil May Cry started immediately after I completed the third one for the first time. Somehow, this game about the adventures of the blond son of Sparda took first place in my personal hit parade of games of all time, brazenly pushing aside – scary to say – the first Max Payne, which, by and large, drew me into the world of computer entertainment. Why did this happen? What happened in the third part Devil May Cry, something I haven’t seen in any game before it?
Non-standard. Moreover, this non-standardity did Nonukcasinosites.co.uk/review/winit/ not manifest itself in everything, but precisely in those cases where it worked out 100%. Take, for example, the main character: the son of the Legendary Dark Knight Sparda, who once saved the world of people from enslavement by the dark forces – Dante. Half-man, half-demon, listening to heavy music, wielding his father’s sword and two personalized pistols. Everything here would seem standard – just another “hero” with new bells and whistles. But his approach to the matter is unconventional: the hefty demon says that he will now tear him to pieces, and Dante, grinning, makes some caustic comment, after which he puts a bullet in the demon’s forehead and, if this is not enough, finishes off with a sword. All this action is accompanied by the wildest show-offs and a healthy dose of humor. Against the backdrop of a gloomy gothic atmosphere, this approach turned out to be “just what the doctor ordered”. In the mechanics of the game, everything was worked out perfectly… well, or almost everything. Various enemies, interesting bosses, each of which had its own “cooking recipe” and delicious action, were a little overshadowed by boring puzzles and tedious runs from point A to point B. Well, okay, nothing is perfect and no matter what the game Devil May Cry 3: Dante’s Awakening – the project is outstanding and unique, there is no other like it on PC… I mean there wasn’t. Just a few days ago the PC version was released Devil May Cry 4.
Divided heroism
Since everyone here is more or less familiar with the subject, I don’t see the point in devoting anyone to the twists and turns of the local plot, so let’s move on to more pressing things:
So, the big minds from the company Capcom for some reason they decided that the main character of the first three parts – Dante – is already, you see, “not a bother” and in general it will be easier for the younger generation of players to get used to the new hero (which, by the way, did not stop them from making the main character in the new Resident evil the character from the distant first part). And here we have Nero – a knight, albeit without fear, but with a slight reproach in the form of a demonic hand, which appeared from nowhere and at first gives the new hero a lot of trouble, because the order that Nero serves fights against any demonic phenomena. Fortunately, he does not suffer for long and soon severe trials force him to use the Devil bringer (or Baster) to the fullest.
Apparently, the developers received too many letters with promises of imminent death, so we are still allowed to play as Dante a little in the last third of the game. With all due respect, but alas – in my opinion, the most boring part of the game. Yes, nostalgia instantly overwhelms you from the very first keystrokes, with rapture looking at the improved animation and new effects of tremblingly familiar techniques, the developers want to say “thank you,” but running through old locations in an abbreviated version, battles with the same bosses completely discourages this desire. What found on Capcom I can’t understand. Obviously, the guys were simply too clever when they decided to make a new playable character. And it would be nice if they made some new type of hero, who in the originality of his actions would not be inferior to Dante when he first appeared on stage (if I’m not mistaken, this was in 2001) – but no. The developers assumed that the monument to the hero in the red cloak is much larger and stronger than it actually is and simply chopped off a piece from it for a new hero. As a result, Nero turned out to be too much like Dante, in almost all respects, and the hero of the occasion, unfortunately, decreased his agility.
Oo-hoo-hoo-hoooo… oops!
Regarding this moment of the fourth part, it is especially unpleasant for me to say. Dante, as before, is ready to give any new hero a head start, and in some places even compete with veterans, but the damned developers simply brazenly cut off his oxygen, focusing 75% of the player’s attention on Nero-damn-him. I want to make a reservation right away: I have almost nothing against the new character. But that’s only because he acts like Dante, thinks like Dante, and acts like Dante. But the “geniuses” from Capcom present this in a slightly veiled form, gluing to Nero his wonderful demonic claw and unshakable feelings for the beauty Kiriya (well, a name, by the way). Do you know what suffers most from these “fathers and sons” style problems?? Nope, not the gameplay – fortunately, it’s at its best here… Videos.
Nero, when the watchful eyes of a cinematic camera are directed at him, does everything right. Like a diligent student, he tries to make it interesting for us. And in any other game this would be great, but not here. Here the level is a little higher and, among other things, drive and creativity are needed here. And if the first is present at least to some extent, then the second is not there at all, at least I don’t remember anything like that. I personally expected more from director Yuji Shimomura.
And how wonderful everything was in the third part! Unexpected actions, spectacular pirouettes and hurricane “Oo-hoo-hoo-hoooo”!” in especially hot moments. These were small masterpieces that I wanted to applaud. In the fourth episode we were despicably deprived of this.
ZYzh
And all of the above does not mean that the game turned out bad. Not at all. The fourth part is very good and interesting to play through. But personally I expected more. For me, this part not only did not surpass the third game in the series, but could not even stand on a par with it. A little bit, but lower. For me personally.
